Le NJPW World Television Championship (NJPW WORLD認定TV王座, Nyū Japan Wārudo-nintei Tī Vī Ōza), que l'on peut traduire par championnat de télévision du NJPW World est un championnat de catch (lutte professionnelle) de la New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW)[1],[2].
Histoire
Takami Ohbari, président et directeur général de la New Japan Pro-Wrestling, et Hiroyoki Mihira, représentant de TV Asahi, ont annoncé la création du titre lors de Declaration of Power le 10 octobre 2022[1]. Le championnat est considéré comme une célébration à la fois du bientôt 50e anniversaire et du partenariat entre les deux sociétés, ainsi que de la croissance continue du service de streaming de la New Japan Pro-Wrestling : le NJPW World. Ohbari encourage les jeunes catcheur du roster à concourir pour ce nouveau championnat[1],[3].
Tous les matchs disputés pour le championnat se déroulent dans un temps imparti de 15 minutes[1]. De plus, en raison de sa nature de championnat "télévisé", tous les matchs avec le championnat en jeu (y compris tous les matchs du tournoi inaugural) sont disponibles gratuitement via le service NJPW World, ainsi que via les réseaux sociaux de la New Japan Pro-Wrestling[1].
Le premier champion est déterminé lors d'un tournoi à élimination simple comportant seize participants, qui débute le 14 octobre 2022 durant la première nuit de Battle Autumn et se termine le 4 janvier 2023 à Wrestle Kingdom 17[4],[5]. Si la limite de temps était atteinte durant un match du tournoi, le gagnant (et donc la personne avançant dans le tournoi) serait déterminé par un tirage au sort[4].
Le champion inaugural est Zack Sabre, Jr., qui remporte le titre en battant Ren Narita durant la première nuit de Wrestle Kingdom 17.[6]
